John McCombs
John L. McCombs, 68, of Pelham, Alabama, and formerly of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015. The Rock Falls, Illinois native served as pastor of Baptist churches in Illinois and Arkansas before working with Cracker Barrel restaurants. With his family, he moved to Pelham in 1988 and later retired from Cracker Barrel as general manager.
In retirement, John enjoyed working as a greeter at WalMart, Pelham. He and his wife, Linda, were active members of Pelham First Baptist Church, where John was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. He was a past president of the Pelham Lions Club.
John was predeceased by his parents, David L. and Mary Leach McCombs; two sisters, Frances Ritchie and Sandra Druien; and two grandchildren, Alycia Austin and Patrick McCombs. Survivors include John's wife of 34 years, the former Linda Sue Steen; daughters, Robyn Manees (Alan), Laurie Roth (Eric), and Mary Elizabeth McCombs (fiance, Jason Weldon); sons, David McCombs (Stephanie) and Michael Starr (Michelle); grandchildren, Bryanna Bowers (Mike), Jonathan Austin, Brittany McCombs, Isaac McCombs, Gabriel Manees, McKenzie McCombs, Keaton McCombs, Jake Starr, Cheyenne Starr, Mason Starr, Anna Roth, and Haven Roth; and sisters, Patricia Stranberg and Merrilee McCue.
Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, Pelham First Baptist Church, followed by the 3 p.m. funeral with Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015, Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas under the direction of Smith - Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton, AR 72015.
