Letty "Sue" Curtis, 85, of Benton, Arkansas passed away July 30, 2017. She was born May 12, 1932 in Caglesville, Arkansas to the late Ross and Vera Bell.
Sue has lived in Benton for over sixty-five years. She was a graduate of Bryant High School and was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. Sue owned and operated several family businesses including Curtis Ice Company, Curtis Grocery, and George's Towing. Sue loved her family and opened her home to over thirty-four foster children.
Preceding Sue in death are her loving husband, George H. Curtis, Jr. whom she married on November 5, 1952; parents, Ross and Vera Bell; son, Steven Howard Curtis; two daughters, Sherrilyn Kay Glenn and Karen Denise Higgins; granddaughter, Haylee Higgins; two brothers, Wayne Bell and Robert "Bob" Bell; and sister, Lela Graddy.
She leaves to cherish her memory son, Michael George Curtis; daughter, Tonya Renee Johnson and husband Larry; son-in-law, Windell Higgins; grandchildren: Carmen Slate and husband Kevin, Thaddeus Curtis and wife Rebecca, Evan Hicks and husband Jeremy, Jared Glenn and wife Blair, Dustin Curtis and wife Sarah, Zachary Glenn and wife Sarah, Emily Curtis, Micalah Johnson, and Hunter Johnson; great-grandchildren: Ava Slate, Clinton Slate, Betsy Curtis, Wilson Curtis, Emily Thompson, Molly Thompson, C.J. Glenn, Easton Glenn, Runley Glenn, Lilah Curtis, Lennon Hicks; sister's: Betty Lou (Dale) Harrell, Mary Ann Nix, Linda (Len) Hill, Peggy (Bill) Newsam and brother: David (Beth) Bell; and a host of family and friends who love Sue and will miss her always.
Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St., Benton, Arkansas. Funeral service, officiated by Rev. Michael Reese, will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 2 at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 402 Shenandoah Drive, Benton, Arkansas. Interment to follow at Smith-Rosemont Cemetery with her grandsons: Thad Curtis, Dustin Curtis, Jeremy Hicks, Kevin Slate, Jared Glenn, Zachary Glenn, and Hunter Johnson assisting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her grand-daughters: Carman Slate, Evan Hicks, Emily Curtis, Blair Glenn, Sarah Glenn, Rebecca Curtis, Sarah Curtis, and Micalah Johnson.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Mt. Carmel Community, Four Seasons Assisted Living, Happy Valley Rehab Facility, Saline Memorial Hospital and Hospice for their tender care and compassion shown to Sue.
