Elsie Rose Ann (Markley) Appling, 81, of Benton, Arkansas passed away on My 24, 2019. She was born May 11, 1938 in Mabelvale, Arkansas to the late Louie Reimain and Susie (Stein) Markley. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alexander, Arkansas.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Oliver Perry Appling, Jr..

Elsie leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving husband of sixty-two and a half years O. P. Appling Sr. of Benton, Arkansas; three sons: Alan Sr. and wife Tonya of Benton, Arkansas, Mark and wife Glenda of Bauxite, Arkansas, and Michael and wife Yoleah of Mabelvale, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Shari of Benton, Arkansas. Her grandchildren; Alan Jr., Amber, Jeremy, Taylor, Hunter, Seth, Ryder, and Bodie Appling, Candice Clark, Zachary, Justin, and Ben Ledbetter. Her great-grandchildren; Kyle, Kenzie, Finn, Bennett, Annabeth, and Logan Appling, Braxton, Layton, and Piper Ledbetter, and Jensen Jones plus a great number of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Elsie was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family, was a carrier for The Benton Courier for over twenty years and worked in the southern style restaurant business for several years. Elsie and O. P. later enjoyed auctions, flea markets and antiquing and made many lifelong friends on these adventures. Elsie had a love of sports from a young age, especially basketball and softball. Elsie held the state scoring title for the most points in a game in girls' basketball for several years at Mabelvale High School. Elsie also played league softball all while raising four active sons.

A reception visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 North Market Street, Benton, Arkansas 72015 followed by a
Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 PM.
