Garland Massey
Garland Otis Massey, 74, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with the Lord July 13, 2019. He was born May 17, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Albert B. and Lorean (Williams) Massey.
Garland loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War where he earned the Rifle Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Award, and Combat Action Ribbon. Garland was a retired welder. He loved his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed the company of friends and talking with them. In his spare time, Garland liked to go bowling, sports, and electronics.
Garland was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brandon Taylor Pruitt, and brothers: Burley Massey and his wife Loraine, A.B. Massey, Jr., and Leon Massey.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of forty-one years, Oma Massey of Benton, Arkansas; daughter Jennifer Pruitt and husband Michael Brandon Pruitt of Carvendale, Illinois; son, Cody Lewis Massey of Benton, Arkansas; daughter, Rebecca Massey of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren: Derek Pruitt, Stephen Pruitt, Clifton Massey, Pamela Gephart, and Charles Gephart; sister, Delores Cox of Mississippi; and many family members and friends who love Garland and will miss him always.
Reception visitation will be held 10:00 AM - Noon, Wednesday, July 17, at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street, Benton, Arkansas. Funeral service, officiated by Rev. Ben Jennings, will follow at 12:00 PM. Burial with military honors following service at Smith-Rosemont Cemetery with Cody Massey, Derek Pruitt, Michael Walker, Michael Massey, James Masters, and Hayden Pierce assisting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Brandon Pruitt.
